Universal Laws and Principles

What is a universal law?

Whether you realize it or not, our reality is driven by fixed laws that determine the physical nature of the world we live in. You cannot change them, and they are affecting everything you do. You can continue through life, oblivious to these laws, or you can start to innerstand them and utilize them to your advantage.

Let’s start with some simple definitions:

A law is an existing condition that is binding, immutable, fixed and cannot be changed. It just is.

A universe is a system of energy and energy appearing as physical matter.

Universal law is the set of natural, non-man-made and immutable conditions that determine how reality and consequence operate within the realm that humans exist in.

Two types of law naturally exist and function together to create our reality and impact our experience here on planet Earth. Universal law is just one of them.

Universal law – Determines the nature and characteristics of energy in the physical reality we experience.

Natural law – Determines natural human morals, rights, values and responsibilities through natural human actions and behavior within this reality.

Why Does Universal Law Matter?

A universe is just one reality and one part of the infinite consciousness. Universal laws are like an agreement between aspects of Source Consciousness as to how a particular aspect of reality will benefit the aspects of Source that choose to experience it.

Our universal laws are a set of unique conditions that govern Earth’s physical experience and reality in the third and fourth dimensions. Before coming here, all souls who come to Earth agreed to these universal laws as a unique experience.

In other parts of infinite consciousness, energy will function differently to create different realities for different experiences.

These conditions constrain all souls who come to Earth. However, human beings are ethereal or energetic beings who come to Earth within a physical body. These laws can provide opportunities for new experiences as well as challenges.

How Many Universal Laws Are There?

Universal laws exist and operate regardless of whether human beings exist, believe them to be true or want them to be true. We can only begin to know and innerstand these laws in our human form by observation, personal experience, and research.

There is much debate about how many universal laws there are. There is also much confusion about what is universal and natural law, and they often become intertwined.

For our purposes, we are considering the laws and conditions that govern the physical reality outside of us, rather than the laws that determine human behavior, which we refer to as natural law. These labels are purely one way of categorizing, so our human minds can innerstand these different concepts.

There is frequent reference to 3, 7, 12, or 20 universal laws, and sometimes even more. Many ancient and modern texts attempt to describe or explain these laws.

Objectively, Source knows the universal laws and how many they are, as Source created them. There are 12 widely accepted primary universal laws that we will consider here. However, many more physical conditions in our reality could be regarded as secondary universal laws or sub-sets of these primary laws. The number is not essential as it is just a way of trying to sort and innerstand these conditions of reality that we are living within.

The 12 Universal Laws

1. The law of divine oneness or mentalism

Everything is inter-connected through a field of energy and affects everything else.

2. The law of vibration

Everything in the universe moves and vibrates on a continuum or spectrum.

3. The law of action

Action must be applied to create in the physical realm.

4. The law of correspondence

The universe is holographic and is self-similar across all scales. What exists in one world, realm, being or thing exists in all worlds, realms, beings or things.

5. The law of cause and effect

Nothing happens by chance. You create your reality as the energy of every word, thought, emotion, action and behavior have an effect or consequence of the same energetic vibration and frequency as that which created it.

6. The law of compensation

You get in return what you give, or what you sow you shall reap.

7. The law of attraction

Like energies (positive or negative) attract like energies across physical, emotional, mental, spiritual and ethereal realms. Our inner realm determines the level at which we vibrate and attract into our outer world and life.

8. The law of perpetual transmutation of energy

Energy is continually changing form. Nothing is permanent, and everything is temporary.

9. The law of relativity

Everything is only made real compared to something else.

10. The law of polarity or duality

Everything exists on a continuum or spectrum between opposites and can be moved or changed.

11. The law of rhythm

Everything moves in rhythms and cycles and shifts from one end or polarity of a spectrum to the other and back again.

12. The law of gender

Everything has feminine and masculine energies which must balance.

What Is Karma?

For many, their first thought is the cliche saying, “What goes around comes around.”

Often, this is said with a negative connotation. When you see or hear about someone who lies, steals, or treats another with unkindness, you may say, “Karma will come back around and catch up with them.”  While this is one aspect of karma, there is actually more to the concept of karma than most of us realize.

In Sanskrit, the word karma means “action.”

When I have a good thought or do a good deed, this goodness has positive effects and ultimately comes back to me. When I have a bad thought or do something that I know is harmful, the negative effects will ultimately come back to me as well.

But it is not just about good and bad.Rather, the important thing is realizing that every action has a meaning; everything you do and say contributes to the overall whole. And most of the time, what we consider to be good or bad is subjective depending on our perspective and life experience. This is especially important to remember when it comes to events happening in your own life.

When you believe something bad is happening to you, it may be time to take a step back and evaluate your life with gentle and non-judgmental awareness.

What lessons might the universe be trying to teach you? Are you blaming others for what happens in your life? Could there be any goodness to what you perceive as bad?

Rather than saying, “This bad thing is always happening to me" you have the opportunity to turn it around and ask, “What can I learn from this experience?”

The 12 laws of Karma

1. The Great Law

The Great Law, also known as The Law of Cause and Effect, fits what most of us traditionally think of when we hear the word karma. Anyone familiar with manifestation and the Law of Attraction will also be familiar with the concepts presented in this law.

The foundation of the Great Law is the idea that whatever we put out into the world is what we get back.

While you may think of this in terms of actions, it is also important to view it in terms of energy.

The energy you put out into the world is what comes back to you, whether you are conscious of it or not.

2. The Law of Creation

The Law of Creation states that you must take action to create the life you desire. You are a powerful creator, and you have the power to co-create your life along with the universe. But too often, we sit back, hoping things will work out but not actively doing anything about it. You must become an active participant in your story.

This does not mean trying to control outcomes, forcing things to happen, or stubbornly staying on a path that does not resonate with you.

Rather, it goes back to the idea of putting out the energy you want to receive. And it also means taking inspired action when your intuition leads you in a certain direction.
If you want to create abundance, first become abundance. Then, when you feel that nudge to take action, do so in a state of effortless flow. This is what co-creating is: setting an intention, telling the universe what you want, become the embodiment of what you want, and trusting the universe to lead you where you are meant to go.

3. The Law of Humility

Are you able to accept responsibility for your past and current reality?

The Law of Humility is all about accepting that you have created your current reality through actions, choices, and the energy you have emitted.

It is about not blaming others for everything that is seemingly going wrong in your life but taking responsibility for your current place in life. In order to change something, you must first accept it.

So in order to change the circumstances you do not like, you must accept the role you have played in creating your current experience; through acceptance, you remove your blinders, embrace the truth, and are able to see what must change in order to create a life that you love.

4. The Law of Growth

The Law of Growth says that there is only one thing you truly have control over: yourself. If you want to make a positive mark on the world, do not start with what you can do externally; start with what you can do internally.

To change the world, start with changing yourself.

This does not mean you have to become a different person. In fact, the opposite is true. The hardest part of growth often comes from removing everything that prevents you from connecting with the truest, most authentic you.

This also means that you may have to accept that you cannot change everything or everyone, even if you believe it would be in their highest good. Trust that if you focus on your own growth and your own path, you will illuminate the way for others. But it has to be their choice.

5. The Law of Responsibility

The Law of Responsibility links closely to the Law of Humility. Can you take responsibility for your current life circumstances, good and bad?

The Law of Responsibility states that rather than looking for external reasons and excuses for why something might be wrong in your life, you must look internally. Because it doesn’t start out there; it starts in here. In me. In you. In all of us.

It is important to truly evaluate your life from a place of non-judgmental, conscious awareness. Instead of looking outward for reasons why something might be going right or wrong, look inward. Know that this is not about judging or criticizing yourself. It is about taking responsibility for the choices you make, whether that be an action you have chosen to take or an energy you have chosen to emit.

6. The Law of Connection

The Law of Connection states that everything in the universe, and everything in your life, is connected.

No action or decision is insignificant because every action effects who you become. Your actions yesterday affect the person you are today, and your actions today affect the person you are tomorrow.

Each step leads to the next step, and no step is more important than the other because they are all connected. This is true for everything in our lives.

And this is true in terms of yourself. You may think of some of your past days as being more important and consequential than others, but every single day you have experienced, has created the person you are today. Everything is connected. Everything is important.

7. The Law of Focus

The Law of Focus states that you should focus on one thing at a time, and if your focus is on spiritual values, you will not have space in your life to focus on lesser feelings such as greed, jealousy, and anger.

What are spiritual values? They are feelings and beliefs stemmed in love, peace, compassion, trust, and kindness: positive thoughts and emotions that welcome more of these positive feelings into your world. Ultimately, you decide your highest spiritual values and what feels true and right for you.

When you focus on feelings that allow you to be spiritually aligned, you have no room in your mind or heart for negative energy that does not serve your higher good.

8. The Law of Giving & Hospitality

This law is essentially the practice what you preach law. The Law of Giving & Hospitality calls on you to demonstrate what you believe in and become the embodiment of your genuine desires for this world.

If you envision a world filled with peace and love, give peace and love to yourself and others.

If you believe in selfless kindness and generosity, be selflessly kind and generous to all.

If you want to see a world connected in compassion and love, give this love and compassion and become connected to all.

Let your actions reflect your deepest and truest beliefs. If you want to see change in the world, become the change by giving what you seek.

9. The Law of Here and Now

The only thing that truly exists is this moment right now. The past is gone, and the future is not here. True inner peace comes from embracing the present moment.

The Law of Here and Now states that true peace of mind comes from living in the present moment, and you cannot embrace the present moment if you are always looking back into the past or ahead into the future. Reliving the past prevents you from engaging with your life just as it is right now. And when you are constantly focusing on the old, you are unable to create the new.

When you find yourself replaying events of the past or worrying about the future, gently bring yourself back to the present moment. Use all of your senses to discover the world that exists right now.

10. The Law of Change

Have you ever heard the phrase, “History repeats itself”? That concept is at the core of the Law of Change, which states that history will continue to repeat itself until you have learned the lessons you are meant to learn and have taken actionable steps to change the pattern.

You might see this play out in all different parts of your life: relationships, career, and your own personal relationship with yourself.

Change can be scary sometimes, but when you embrace change and start on a new path, you open yourself to experiencing genuine joy, fulfillment, and growth.

11. The Law of Patience and Reward

The Law of Patience and Reward is rooted in the belief that consistency, patience, and continuing to show up day after day, even when you don’t see the rewards today, will bring true joy, peace, and fulfillment.

Do not wait for all of your dreams to manifest in your reality before you allow yourself to experience true joy. Feel joyful now knowing that you are on the path, aligned with your purpose and passion, and exactly where you are meant to be in this moment.

12. The Law of Significance and Inspiration

You matter. Your voice matters. Your presence matters. You were born with specific goals and talents that only you possess. Only you have lived your unique experiences. And that dream that is in your heart is there for a reason.

The Law of Significance and Inspiration states that every single one of us contributes to the greater whole. We all play a part in contributing to the highest good of the world.

And what you are doing matters. When you put your heart into something and contribute your gifts and talents with wholehearted love, you are creating a ripple effect that you probably cannot even see.

You are lifting up others and inspiring others to follow their hearts, too. And the more positive energy and loving intentions you put into your contribution, the more you are not only contributing to the highest good for all, but to yourself as well. You will get back all of this positive energy in ways you cannot even imagine.

So know that everything you do matters. Your purpose and your gift matter. You matter. More than you know.

What are the 7 hermetic principles, and where did they come from?

The seven principles are the foundation of Hermeticism, a branch of spiritual philosophy dating back as early as the first century A.D. They were outlined by famed author Hermes Trismegistus, who is believed to have written the Emerald Tablet and the Corpus Hermeticum (two highly influential, ancient teachings).

His work would go on to influence both ancient Greek and Egyptian cultures, with both adopting him as a god of wisdom. In Greece he was called Hermes; in Egypt, Thoth. He was known in his time as a great master of the universe and is said to have lived for thousands of years.

Over time, the seven hermetic principles were passed down by word-of-mouth from teacher to student, and eventually, one day in the early 20th century, the teachings were compiled into a book called The Kybalion, written by "The Three Initiates." Today, they remain an occult source of wisdom, separate from any real religion but powerful nonetheless.

1. The principle of mentalism

"The All is Mind; the Universe is Mental." —The Kybalion

The principle of mentalism states that the universe is akin to a mental projection. The is like manifestation 101, which is all about using your thoughts to shape your reality. For anything to be, a thought must precede it. Through this principle, it is believed that God is consciousness, or thought, and the universe is a manifestation of the mind of God. Using this law, we, too, can harness the power of our minds to create the life we want.

How to apply it:

Consider the initial thought that led you to be able to read this, on whatever device you are on. Or even the thought that is most influencing your mood right now.

When we recognize how much our thoughts manifest every day, whether internally as a physiological or emotional state, or externally, as the things we do or places we go, we see that when we can control our mind, we control our lives. We can get better at this through spiritual practices such as meditation, which help us train the mind.

2. The principle of correspondence

"As above, so below; as below, so above." —The Kybalion

We have all heard this quote before, but maybe you never knew it was Hermes who first coined it. It is closely related to the first principle of mentalism and states that what we hold in our thoughts and mind will become our reality. It explains the many planes of existence, including those of lower and higher vibrational frequencies and how they are connected.

How to apply it:

Applying this law is all about understanding your connection to the world around you and how you are showing up for yourself and the universe through your thoughts, and subsequently, your actions. When we have a firm grasp on how we are interacting with life and how it is affecting us, we can recognize and break patterns, live in alignment with our highest good, and feel harmonious with everything there is.

3. The principle of vibration

"Nothing rests; everything moves; everything vibrates." —The Kybalion

Yes, believe it or not, the idea of "vibes" has been around a long, long time. The principle of vibration states that all things, both physical matter and spiritual energy, hold a certain vibration. Basic science tells us atoms are in constant motion, as is the universe itself. Even our hearts, as they beat, give off different vibrations depending on our emotional state. And when we are "vibing high," we are able to avoid low-level frequencies that do not serve our higher good.

How to apply it:

This will look different for everyone, but to apply this third principle, you want to not only do things but think thoughts that allow you to be in a state of ease, where your body is vibrating at a more positive level. Applying the first two principles can help you start to do this. You might be noticing all of these principles are deeply interwoven. With this principle, we acknowledge that we have the power to control our vibration rather than our vibration controlling us.

4. The principle of polarity

"Everything is dual; everything has poles; everything has its pair of opposites; like and unlike are the same; opposites are identical in nature but different in degree; extremes meet; all truths are but half-truths; all paradoxes may be reconciled." —The Kybalion

The principle of polarity explains that seemingly opposite things are actually one and the same at varying degrees. A simple example of this is hot and cold. Cold is just the absence of heat, and they are both one thing: temperature. Physical matter and spiritual energy are the same thing, with spiritual energy vibrating at a much higher level, such that it cannot be perceived by our senses. Love and hate are two ways of experiencing the same thing, a relationship toward something. This is the foundation of alchemy, or the ability to transmute your experiences at will.

How to apply it:

Applying the principle of polarity takes a degree of mental stamina and involves shifting the way you look at something, potentially completely on its head. Take the hate you may feel for someone: Is there any way you can shift it to feelings of love? Any time a lower vibrational emotion is bringing you down, can you recognize it, feel it, and transmute it to a more positive one?

5. The principle of rhythm

"Everything flows, out and in; everything has its tides; all things rise and fall; the pendulum-swing manifests in everything; the measure of the swing to the right is the measure of the swing to the left; rhythm compensates." —The Kybalion

Closely related to the principle of polarity, the fifth principle states that between the opposing poles, there exists an inherent rhythm. The tides move in and out. We inhale and exhale. Everything is in motion. Nature has its seasons and so, too, do we. Understanding this principle allows us to recognize our life's, and the universe's, natural rhythms, so we can actually work with them rather than having them working against us.

How to apply it:

Know that nothing lasts forever, and things are ever-changing. As you get deeper into working with this law, you will be able to work with your own emotional states to avoid a dramatic pendulum swing of feelings. It is thought that eventually the master will be able to completely transcend duality, but if you are just getting started, try becoming more aware of your emotional state and using polarity (No. 4) and rhythm to start getting more comfortable with the natural fluxes of your life.

6. The principle of cause and effect

"Every cause has its effect; every effect has its cause; everything happens according to law; chance is but a name for law not recognized; there are many planes of causation, but nothing escapes the law." —The Kybalion

Everything is connected through the principle of cause and effect, for each cause of one thing is merely the effect of something else, going back to the very beginning.

Ask yourself, are you a cause? Or are you an effect? This principle is all about acknowledging the effects of our thoughts and behavior and how we may change them to bring about greater effects.

How to apply it:

When something does not go as planned or you find yourself unhappy, ask yourself, what was the cause? Many times, we find ourselves reacting to the world around us, trapped in a back-and-forth of reacting to our circumstances rather than forging our own path. When we take action to get the effect we want, we move from feeling like a victim to feeling empowered.

7. The principle of gender

"Gender is in everything; everything has its masculine and feminine principles; gender manifests on all planes." —The Kybalion

The seventh principle states that all things have masculine and feminine qualities. Yes, the two sexes can be thought of as a physical manifestation of this principle, but as we are all coming to innerstand, on an internal level, all of us hold both energies. Think the left and right brain.

Masculine and feminine energy exists in not only the physical plane but the mental and spiritual plane as well. The unity of these two energies is essential for creation, and when one has a balance of both, they are better able to apply all of the principles together for maximum benefit.

How to apply it:

Accept all the parts of yourself, and innerstand that balance in all is key for self-mastery. Buddha called the middle way, and it is all about the balance of masculine and feminine; of heavenly and Earthbound; and of the mind, body, and spirit. When we can achieve this balance within ourselves, we are well equipped to harness all of these principles and use them in our lives for good.

If this all sounds like a lot, do not worry. These principles run very, very deep, and it can take a long time to fully innerstand and embody them. Each time you come back to them, you may innerstand them in a new way, or on a deeper level. And in time, these principles can help you master your own mind and your life as a whole.

What are the four agreements?

It is a self-help book by the author Don Miguel Ruiz. The book outlines a code of conduct based on ancient Toltec wisdom; advocating freedom from self-limiting beliefs which bring suffering and limitation to one's life.

Agreement 1 - Be impeccable with your word

Speak with integrity. Say only what you mean. Avoid using the word to speak against yourself or to gossip about others. Use the power of your word in the direction of truth and love.

Agreement 2 - Don't take anything personally

Nothing others do is because of you. What others say and do is a projection of their own reality, their own dream. When you are immune to the opinions and actions of others, you won't be the victim of needless suffering.

Agreement 3 - Don't make assumptions

Find the courage to ask questions and to express what you really want. Communicate with others as cleatly as you can to avoid misunderstandings, sadness, and drama. With just this one agreement, you can completely transform your life.

Agreement 4 - Always do your best

Your best is going to change from moment to moment; it will be different
when you are tired as opposed to well-rested. Under any circumstance simply do your best, and you will avoid self-judgment self-abuse, and regret.

What are the 5 universal laws of creation?

The 5 Universal Laws are the fundamental laws that create and build our reality according to Bashar. Innerstanding these laws can provide a great deal of use and comfort during your work as a conscious creator.

1. You exist…you always have and you always will. You are eternal.

You can always change your form, because energy never dies, but you cannot change the fact that you exist. By definition, nonexistence does not exist.

2. Everything is here and now

Time is an illusion, a projection of our consciousness. Time was created by man for a unit of measurement. Everything already exists right here.

3. The One is the All and the All is the One

This means there is only one consciousness. We are all a different perspective of the one consciousness experiencing itself subjectively.

4. What you put out is what you get back

People equate that to the Law of Attraction. You may believe you have to be the vibration of what you want to attract, and it could be confusing as to how to learn what that vibration is in order to attract what you want in your life. You are already giving off that vibration because that is your natural core vibration, to attract what you need and want in life. If you are not manifesting what you need or want, it is not because you are not matching the vibration of the attraction, it is because you are blocking them from coming to you with all those negative and fear based beliefs. Learn to stop blocking what you are already attracting naturally.

5. Everything changes except for the first four

Everything changes except the laws. Those structures do not change, but everything else does.
