Chakras

What are Chakras?

The chakra system, rooted in ancient Indian philosophy, outlines seven primary energy centers within the human body, each corresponding to specific dimensions of physical, emotional, and spiritual life. Derived from the Sanskrit word chakra, meaning “wheel” or “disk,” these centers are envisioned as spinning vortices of energy. Though many trace their written origins to the Vedas, dating as far back as 1500–500 BCE, others argue the system emerged through even older oral traditions, making its exact inception difficult to pinpoint. Each chakra holds a unique resonance—for example, the crown chakra reflects spiritual insight and divine connection, while the root chakra anchors one to the physical world through themes of stability, family, and survival. Today, the chakra model is interwoven into numerous healing practices, including yoga, Ayurvedic medicine, Traditional Chinese Medicine, and contemporary integrative psychotherapy.

How Chakras Work Within You

Think of your body as the bed of a river, and the energy is the water in it. Life within and around the river thrives when it flows smoothly.  If there are any points in your riverbed that cause the water to slow to the point of nearly stopping, like a dam, the water becomes stale and stagnant. That is when bacteria and mold begin to grow.  That blockage can also stop the flow of water from getting to where it was originally intended. So the rest of the river, or maybe a pond or lake down the line, dries up and the life it once supported dies.

There may be a point where the water in the riverbed is rushing too fast, so it overloads the riverbanks and overwhelms the end point. Those areas will become imbalanced and the normal rhythm of life gets disturbed. In order to keep all the water fresh and clean and flowing smoothly, we have to remove blockages from the river’s course, as well as even out any anomalies in the river to ensure it flows continuously and peacefully, yet with strength so it does not become stale or stagnant.

This maintenance also ensures that if something is ever thrown into the river, it simply sweeps it away or the obstruction does not affect the current.

This same concept holds true to the chakra energy within your body.

Three Lower Chakras

The three lower chakras, which are the Root, Sacral and the Solar Plexus, are the earthly chakras. They are also known as, The Chakras of Matter. They are directly connected to the body and Earth. They correspond with the nerve centers in your physical body. When you concentrate on them, it not only stirs you spiritually, but also rouses you physically.

Heart Chakra

The Heart Chakra is the connecting chakra. It connects the three lower earthly chakras to the three upper spiritual chakras. If your earthly chakras are blocked and out of alignment, your Heart Chakra cannot connect your earthly chakras to your spiritual chakras because your prana, or kundalini, is not flowing.

Three Upper Chakras

The three upper chakras, which are the Throat, Third Eye and the Crown, are the spiritual chakras. They are directly connected to your soul, spirit and the Universe, or Source.

How Chakra Blockages Happen

A lack of self-awareness is one of the most significant factors that disrupts our energetic flow, especially when paired with the habit of clinging to negativity. When we move through life on autopilot—constantly doing, but rarely just being—our inner energy becomes stagnant. In that state, inspiration fades, curiosity dims, and we slowly lose connection to both ourselves and the world around us.

Every experience we encounter carries a charge, whether positive or negative. Think back to a moment when you went through something difficult—how did your energy feel? Heavy, constricted, perhaps drained. Now recall a time when you felt joy or deep fulfillment. Your energy likely felt lighter, more expansive, more alive.

Negativity, while a natural part of the human experience, is rarely welcome. It can feel abrasive, exhausting, and invasive. But denying its presence or pretending it doesn’t affect us is just as harmful as dwelling in it. True self-mastery requires neither resistance nor obsession—it calls for awareness, acknowledgment, and release.

Living in a state of unawareness doesn’t mean you’re free from negativity; rather, it means you’re not centered in it. Negativity will arise, as it always does in life’s cycles. But when we unconsciously absorb and harbor it—whether by avoidance or attachment—it settles within us, creating energetic congestion. Over time, these unprocessed frequencies become blockages, silently influencing our emotional state, health, and spiritual clarity.

How Blockages Affect Us

When energy within the body becomes negative, stagnant, or blocked, it no longer moves with ease or intelligence. Instead of circulating in harmony, it begins to slow, collapse, and eventually settle into vulnerable areas. Over time, this energetic stagnation can manifest physically as disease or illness. What begins as a blockage in one area doesn’t remain isolated—it ripples outward, distorting the flow throughout the entire chakra system. One affected center will inevitably influence the others, creating a cascade of imbalance.

Each chakra is interconnected. If one flows with too little energy, it begins to starve its neighboring center. If it flows with too much, it overwhelms the next in line. As this energetic see-saw continues, more chakras become destabilized. The result is a body-mind-spirit system that is constantly overcompensating, fatigued, and emotionally erratic. A single blockage may still allow energy to trickle through, but the person will often experience emotional volatility, inconsistent drive, and periodic feelings of being stuck. On the surface, everything might seem fine, but internally, there's a quiet tension that can erupt without warning.

As multiple blockages form, the emotional fluctuations grow more intense and less predictable. There are deeper pockets of energetic stagnation—spaces where unresolved emotions, old traumas, or psychic residue accumulate. These dense zones often become the breeding grounds for chronic illness, autoimmune issues, and mental health struggles. What begins as a pattern of being “moody” or reactive can evolve into severe and persistent disruptions in well-being if left unaddressed.

When your energy slows too much, your life force weakens. The vital current that nourishes your body and animates your soul begins to falter. In this state, healing becomes difficult. Progress feels like wading through mud. Everything seems dull, pointless, or heavy. You may feel apathetic, exhausted, or indifferent to your own needs and passions. This is not laziness—it is a sign that the inner flame is dimming and calling for rekindling.

On the other hand, when energy flows too quickly and erratically, it becomes difficult to ground or embody. Instead of being absorbed and integrated, the energy rushes through and disperses. This state often brings anxiety, overwhelm, restlessness, and a sense of disconnection. Life moves in fast forward, and nothing fully lands. You may skim through conversations, ignore inner signals, lose focus easily, or struggle to follow through. The body and mind become misaligned—always reacting, but rarely present.

The most dangerous state is when there is no energy flow at all. This is a condition of total depletion—a soul that has stopped listening to its own voice. At this point, intuitive signals are drowned out. The will to live wanes. The system retreats into darkness, often manifesting as advanced physical illness, clinical depression, or suicidal ideation. This is the body’s cry for reconnection—a desperate urge to return to life, to feeling, to purpose.

What happens within us does not remain contained. Energetic stagnation often spills into our outer world. When our own energy centers are blocked or chaotic, it becomes difficult to express love, compassion, or clarity to others. We may act impatient, disconnected, or even unkind—not because we lack empathy, but because we are struggling to extend that care to ourselves. Furthermore, when we carry internal blockages, we become more susceptible to absorbing external negativity. The body’s natural energetic filtration system slows down, and residual emotions from others—anger, envy, fear—may stick to us, amplifying our imbalance rather than flowing through and away.

To heal is to listen. To feel is to awaken. And to clear our energy is to return to who we were before the noise—before trauma, pressure, and external chaos reshaped our natural rhythm. The chakras do not merely keep our bodies alive—they keep our soul rooted to this world, circulating purpose, passion, and the will to evolve. When we honor their flow, we reclaim our emotional sovereignty, restore our physical vitality, and remember our spiritual truth.

Fascia and your Chakras

Fascia makes up approximately 60% of your body. Fascial fibers form a thin casing of protective tissue surrounding every body system. It holds your bones, organs, blood vessels, muscles, and more in place to give your body structure and support. They are little microtubules filled with fluid that carry your energy. The energy in your body is known as photons or little points of light.

Your entire body is made of them, and they hold your consciousness; also known as communicators. Most fascia in your body looks like cloth or spider webs, but there are seven locations in the body where they look like bands of fascia.

The first picture here is directly out of a myofascial textbook. Notice where the bands of fascia are located. The second picture shows you where your 7 main chakras are located in relation to the fascia. It is interesting to note, that those concentrated energy centers, known as chakras, are closely aligned with the bands of concentrated energy called fascia.

Now think of all the other places within your body where the fascia is, to your minor chakras and pressure points.

Now think of the top of your head, where your Crown Chakra is located. It is said the Crown Chakra has 1000 Lotus petals. That is because it is the opening into your body. It is your anterior fontanel, which is the soft spot on top of your head when you were a baby. That is what your Crown Chakra is, the anterior fontanel.
