Chakras

What are Chakras?

The chakra system, a concept originating in India, describes seven energy centers within the body, each associated with distinct aspects of life. The Sanskrit word "chakra" translates to "wheel" or "disk," reflecting their energetic nature. While some scholars place the system's origins in the Vedas (1500-500 BC), others suggest a much earlier origin through oral tradition, making precise dating difficult. The crown chakra, for instance, symbolizes spiritual wisdom and empathy, while the root chakra represents family and abundance. This ancient system is utilized in various healing modalities, including yoga, Ayurvedic medicine, Traditional Chinese Medicine, and modern psychotherapy.

How Chakras Work Within You

Think of your body as the bed of a river, and the energy is the water in it. Life within and around the river thrives when it flows smoothly.  If there are any points in your riverbed that cause the water to slow to the point of nearly stopping, like a dam, the water becomes stale and stagnant. That is when bacteria and mold begin to grow.  That blockage can also stop the flow of water from getting to where it was originally intended. So the rest of the river, or maybe a pond or lake down the line, dries up and the life it once supported dies.

There may be a point where the water in the riverbed is rushing too fast, so it overloads the riverbanks and overwhelms the end point. Those areas will become imbalanced and the normal rhythm of life gets disturbed. In order to keep all the water fresh and clean and flowing smoothly, we have to remove blockages from the river’s course, as well as even out any anomalies in the river to ensure it flows continuously and peacefully, yet with strength so it does not become stale or stagnant.

This maintenance also ensures that if something is ever thrown into the river, it simply sweeps it away or the obstruction does not affect the current.

This same concept holds true to the chakra energy within your body.

Three Lower Chakras

The three lower chakras, which are the Root, Sacral and the Solar Plexus, are the earthly chakras. They are also known as, The Chakras of Matter. They are directly connected to the body and Earth. They correspond with the nerve centers in your physical body. When you concentrate on them, it not only stirs you spiritually, but also rouses you physically.

Heart Chakra

The Heart Chakra is the connecting chakra. It connects the three lower earthly chakras to the three upper spiritual chakras. If your earthly chakras are blocked and out of alignment, your Heart Chakra cannot connect your earthly chakras to your spiritual chakras because your prana, or kundalini, is not flowing.

Three Upper Chakras

The three upper chakras, which are the Throat, Third Eye and the Crown, are the spiritual chakras. They are directly connected to your soul, spirit and the Universe, or Source.

How Chakra Blockages Happen

A lack of awareness is a major contributing factor for most people, as well as holding onto any negativity. When we go through life just doing, with no thought of being, our energy becomes stagnant. We then become uninspired and lose interest in ourselves and in the world around us.

Everything we experience may be positive or negative. Think of a time when you experienced something negative. How did your energy feel? Now think of a time when you experienced something positive. How did your energy feel then?

We can all agree that any negativity is unwanted and can be irritating. One should never ignore negativity or pretend it does not exist nor should they dwell on it either.

Living in a state of "unawareness" simply means your focus will not be on negativity. You will always experience negativity in various ways. and when we unintentionally, or intentionally, let negativity dwell within us, we hold onto that debilitating energy which then forms blockages within us.

How Blockages Affect Us

If one's energy becomes negative, stale and stagnant because of a blockage, your energy stops flowing properly. That declining energy then settles into an area in your body that may form into a disease or an illness. Moreover, it will not just affect the chakra it is in or closest to, but it will end up wreaking havoc in the other chakras as well.

If a chakra’s flow is too little or too much, it will either starve or overflow the next closest chakra. As the imbalance continues, the next chakras in line become negatively impacted. The improper energy flow affects us in the following ways:

If you have a blockage, you will get by because your energy will still flow, but you will experience more emotional ups and downs, as well as stops and starts in your life. The typical symptom is you are generally okay but can snap easily.

Multiple blockages causes more frequent and more severe emotional surges, as well as pockets of stagnation where physical disease and illness form. If ignored, the problems persistently grow larger and deeper over time. The typical symptom is having regular mood swings, and/or unpredictable reactions.

If your energy is too slow, then the life force which powers your existence cannot provide the right amount of fuel that is needed for you to move forward and heal. The typical symptom is feeling sluggish, lackluster and don’t care.

If your energy is too fast, then you cannot grasp its benefit as it rushes through you and beyond, and it will possibly spin you off of your life’s course. The typical symptom is skimming, not listening, always in a rush, lack of focus and get overwhelmed easily.

If there is no flow at all, then it is the lowest point possible for your physical being. It means you have not listened to your intuitive awareness because you have given up and on the verge of perishing from this Earthly realm. The typical symptom is advanced illness or have attempted severe self-harm behavior.

Internal negativity can also project into other areas of our lives, including outside of our physical bodies. For example, if our chakras are not flowing freely, we may not react or treat others in a kind and loving manner because we are struggling to be kind and loving to ourselves. Also, if we have an existing blockage, then some other negativity gets projected onto us by someone or something else, that extra negativity will not get swept away as quickly as it should, if at all.

Fascia and your Chakras

Fascia makes up approximately 60% of your body. Fascial fibers form a thin casing of protective tissue surrounding every body system. It holds your bones, organs, blood vessels, muscles, and more in place to give your body structure and support. They are little microtubules filled with fluid that carry your energy. The energy in your body is known as photons or little points of light.

Your entire body is made of them, and they hold your consciousness; also known as communicators. Most fascia in your body looks like cloth or spider webs, but there are seven locations in the body where they look like bands of fascia.

The first picture here is directly out of a myofascial textbook. Notice where the bands of fascia are located. The second picture shows you where your 7 main chakras are located in relation to the fascia. It is interesting to note, that those concentrated energy centers, known as chakras, are closely aligned with the bands of concentrated energy called fascia.

Now think of all the other places within your body where the fascia is, to your minor chakras and pressure points.

Now think of the top of your head, where your Crown Chakra is located. It is said the Crown Chakra has 1000 Lotus petals. That is because it is the opening into your body. It is your anterior fontanel, which is the soft spot on top of your head when you were a baby. That is what your Crown Chakra is, the anterior fontanel.
