Aura

What is the aura?

Your aura is a network of pulsing energy fields that form the energetic blueprint for your body and mind, which assists in your spiritual awareness. The aura is also known as the bioenergy field or the bio-plasma field, and is the electromagnetic field, or energy body, emitted by all living things. There are those that claim there are many more layers to the aura, as much as 25 layers.

The aura's multi-layered structure extends outward from the body, each successive layer becoming less dense and more ethereal. These layers are interconnected with both the chakras and their corresponding layers. Energy flows through the aura in spirals and figure-eights, with a greater flow indicating a healthier aura. Specific energetic structures and patterns are also embedded within its layers.

The aura, meant to be a vibrant shield, can become compromised. It may detach from the body, collapse inward, or develop leaks and tears in its filtering layers. It can become thin and depleted of vital energies, or accumulate harmful toxins. Furthermore, imbalances in its energetic polarity can disrupt your connection to the earth (grounding) and to other people, sometimes even causing a repelling effect that fosters franticness and isolation.

Frequently asked questions

What are the aura layers and what do they mean?

1. The Etheric Layer or Etheric Body

The etheric body, the aura's first layer, extends ½ to 2 inches from the skin, mirroring the physical form. It is connected to the first chakra, organs, glands, and meridians, reflecting the body's overall health and condition.

2. The Emotional Layer or Emotional Body

The emotional body, the second layer of the aura, extends two to four inches from the physical body, forming an oval shape. Connected to the second chakra, it reflects our feelings, emotions, and experiences, constantly shifting with our mood. This layer can also hold unresolved emotions like fear, resentment, and loneliness.

3. The Mental Layer or Mental Body

The mental body, the third layer of the aura, extends four to eight inches from the physical form. Connected to the third chakra, it governs consciousness, ideas, logic, beliefs, and intellect. This is where thoughts are processed and validated, and where mental health and related issues manifest.

4. The Astral Bridge Layer, Astal Body, or Bridge Layer

The fourth aura layer, the Astral or Bridge Layer, extends eight to twelve inches from the body. Connected to the fourth chakra, it governs love, well-being, expansion, and balance. Bridging the physical and spiritual aspects, it separates the inner three layers from the outer three.

5. The Etheric Template Layer

The etheric template, the fifth aura layer, extends one to two feet from the body. Connected to the fifth chakra, it governs sound, vibration, communication, and creativity. This layer acts as a spiritual blueprint of the physical body.

6. The Celestial Layer or Celestial Body

The celestial body, the sixth aura layer, extends two to three feet from the body, reflecting the subconscious mind. It facilitates connection between the physical and spiritual minds through practices like meditation and devotion. Connected to the sixth chakra, it governs memories, dreams, spiritual awareness, intuition, trust, honesty, and unconditional love, holding our experiences of connection with the divine.

7. The Ketheric Template Layer or Causal Layer

The ketheric template, the seventh aura layer, extends three to five feet from the body (depending on spiritual development) and connects to the seventh chakra, the source of all knowledge and possibilities. It protects and unifies the other layers, containing the blueprint of our spiritual path and reflecting all soul experiences. This layer links us to the divine.

Can one take a picture of the aura?

Kirlian photography, developed by Semyon and Valentina Kirlian in 1939, provides visual evidence of bio-plasma fields, or auras. Their high-frequency electrical field camera captured the first images of plant and animal auras. Numerous scientific studies have since confirmed the existence of these fields. Notably, an organism's aura often retains the shape of the body, even after amputation, potentially explaining how some clairvoyants locate deceased individuals. While Kirlian photography can reveal the presence of entities, its accuracy in capturing the full detail and meaning of an aura is limited by camera quality and its inability to depict vibration. Personal observation often reveals more color bands and nuance than Kirlian photos.

Do auras vibrate?

Yes. A person's aura's vibration reveals their thought patterns, stress levels, and physical and mental well-being. For example, regular meditation often correlates with a slower vibratory rate. In some individuals with bipolar disorder, differing vibratory rates on each side of the body suggest a lack of synchronization between the brain hemispheres.

How large are auras?

Auras are believed to grow and evolve with us. In infancy, they're typically small, only about 6 inches wide. As children mature, their auras expand and gain color, reflecting their developing personalities and thought processes. Most adults have auras around 2 feet wide, while those who are more spiritually evolved or possess strong personalities may have auras reaching 5-6 feet. Exceptionally large auras, like the one observed around a Sikh holy man (over 30 feet wide), are rare.

How can I see my own aura?

To perceive your aura's first layer, try this: Lie in a dimly lit room, ideally in the early morning light. Extend your arm near your face and squint. A faint white outline may appear close to your skin, this is your etheric body. It is often easier to see in your peripheral vision.

How does an aura relate to telepathy?

Scientific evidence suggests the aura plays a role in telepathic communication, receiving messages before they reach the brain. Subconscious telepathic reception can manifest in the aura even without conscious awareness. Due to the aura's influence on the body, healers often believe that aura healing can address physical ailments, a concept supported by Kirlian photography.

Can my aura change with my mood?

Your aura directly reflects your emotional state. Joy and peace manifest as bright, vibrant colors, while stress and sadness result in a dimmer aura with darker hues. This dynamic nature makes the aura a real-time indicator of emotional well-being. A joyful event can illuminate the aura with warm colors, while grief or stress can darken it. Recognizing this connection empowers you to manage negative emotions and cultivate positivity for a healthier aura.

Can my aura reveal my personality?

Aura colors can reveal personality traits. Blue often signifies calmness, intuition, and trustworthiness, while red suggests energy, passion, and assertiveness. These traits are not static; green may indicate personal growth, and yellow, intellectual focus. Innerstanding aura colors fosters self-awareness, revealing strengths and areas for development, leading to more authentic living.

Can auras interact with each other?

Auras interact energetically, influencing our feelings about others. Meeting someone new involves an energetic exchange that can create instant connections or discomfort. Positive interactions uplift, while negative ones drain. Innerstanding this dynamic allows for more mindful relationship choices, prioritizing energizing connections and managing draining ones.

Can my aura be strengthened and cleansed?

Aura health, like physical health, can be maintained and enhanced. Practices like meditation, yoga, and energy work cleanse and strengthen the aura. Grounding, visualizing white light, and using healing crystals also promote a vibrant aura by clearing negativity and attracting positive vibrations. Regular cleansing is crucial, especially in stressful environments, to protect against unwanted energies and maintain a positive personal energy.

Can the environment influence my aura?

Your environment significantly impacts your aura. Positive spaces, like nature or a loving home, enhance aura brightness. Negative environments dull it and drain energy. Creating nurturing spaces with plants, crystals, soothing colors, and personal items is key. Regular cleansing, like smudging, also helps maintain a positive atmosphere for a healthier, more vibrant aura.

Does my aura reflect my spiritual growth?

As you embark on a spiritual journey, your aura undergoes a transformation, reflecting your inner growth. Those on a path of spiritual awakening often radiate auras with higher vibrational frequencies and increasingly refined, lighter colors. This luminosity signifies a deeper connection to their higher selves and the universe. Spiritual practices, such as meditation, prayer, and acts of kindness, can further elevate your aura, making it brighter and more harmonious. These practices foster a profound sense of peace and purpose by strengthening your connection to your inner self and the divine. Observing the subtle shifts in your aura over time provides a powerful visual record of your spiritual evolution, a testament to your conscious efforts towards enlightenment.

What do the aura colors mean?

Red aura

Individuals with a red aura are vibrant and dynamic, radiating energy, adventure, and enthusiasm. Their spontaneous nature can sometimes lead to impulsiveness, and they may occasionally be temperamental. However, they are also remarkably strong in spirit, body, and mind, possessing resilience and genuine helpfulness. Their natural athleticism and resistance to injury often make them successful in sports, and their determination usually leads to achievement in most areas they pursue.

Orange aura

People with orange auras are typically outgoing and generous, thriving in social settings and often enjoying the spotlight. Their confidence is complemented by a genuine empathy, allowing them to connect with others' emotions and radiate a captivating charm. Although they can be prone to quick tempers, they are generally forgiving, especially if a sincere apology acknowledges their pride. A tendency to act impulsively, without fully considering the consequences, is also a characteristic of this aura type.

Yellow aura

Individuals with yellow auras are often considered eccentric, possessing a unique blend of intelligence, logic, and analytical thinking.  Their unusual perspectives and keen observational skills make them well-suited for careers involving innovation, such as inventors or scientists.  Their dedication to their work can sometimes manifest as workaholism, but they are also capable of inspiring those around them.  While they may be naturally introverted, they should be mindful of the potential for depression when under stress. Their empathic abilities allow them to read people easily, though this can sometimes come across as critical judgment.

Green aura

Those with a green aura often demonstrate exceptional creativity, unwavering determination, and deep loyalty.  Their energy is characterized by hard work and a grounded, practical approach, though they may sometimes lean towards perfectionism.  This earth-associated aura can also be connected to activities that resonate with nature and nurturing, such as cooking, gardening, or similar pursuits. They possess a keen appreciation for beauty while maintaining a strong sense of practicality and stability.

Blue aura

Those with blue auras are often gifted communicators, possessing a natural charisma and eloquence that allows them to express themselves with clarity and grace. They are adept at balancing logic and emotional intelligence, making them well-suited for situations requiring both. Their inspirational nature makes them excellent motivators and peacemakers, capable of bringing harmony to challenging situations. They are typically organized and value clarity, but they can sometimes take on too much, leading to workaholism and potential strain on personal relationships.

Indigo aura

People with indigo auras possess a remarkable ability to absorb the thoughts, feelings, emotions, and even traumas of those around them. They have a heightened intuition, a "sixth sense" that allows them to innerstand people on a deeper level.  They go beyond observing behaviors, words, and actions, intuitively grasping the underlying reasons behind a person's actions, often sensing trauma without needing verbal confirmation.  This sensitivity makes them particularly susceptible to the energies of others, more so than individuals with other aura colors.  The darkness of the indigo hue reflects the degree of sensitivity, with darker shades indicating a greater saturation of this ability and a potential for feeling overwhelmed by the energies they absorb.

Purple aura

People with purple auras often possess strong psychic abilities, exhibiting a deep sensitivity to the emotions and feelings of others. While they themselves are internally and emotionally sensitive, they also possess a philosophical nature and an insatiable thirst for knowledge. Their minds and subconscious are highly intuitive, driving them to constant exploration in all aspects of their lives. They often project an air of mystery, making them infectiously interesting to those around them, though they can also be quite secretive.

Other common colors you may see

Pink aura

Those with pink auras possess an innate capacity for love, both giving and receiving it with joy. They thrive in environments of genuine affection and cherish the company of loved ones. Often natural entertainers, they have a talent for hosting large-scale events and gatherings. They prioritize their well-being through physical and nutritional self-care. Romantic at heart, they are typically faithful and committed once they find their soulmate or twin flame.  Many pink aura individuals possess natural healing abilities, complemented by strong psychic, creative, and imaginative gifts. They are exceptionally empathic and compassionate, particularly towards the needs of others, and are deeply averse to conflict and injustice. Their unwavering desire to make the world a better place can even lead them to self-sacrifice for the greater good.

White/Silver aura

Those with white or silver auras are often considered exceptionally gifted individuals, possessing talents in both the physical and spiritual realms. Their karma and karmic debt in this lifetime are closely linked to how they utilize these gifts, forming a significant part of their predestined life lessons and soul contract. They are typically both intuitive and psychic, while also exhibiting strong practical skills and a deep sensitivity towards others. This combination of traits makes them ideally suited for roles as counselors and teachers. Their adaptability and versatility allow them to navigate life's challenges with grace, literally and figuratively. Combined with their high intellect, this creates a personality capable of making positive choices and possessing the drive to see them through. They are often blessed with a natural charisma, resulting in a universally attractive appearance and personality.

Gold aura

Those with gold auras possess a deep appreciation for beauty and art, often curating their surroundings and adorning themselves with objects they find aesthetically pleasing. They are natural hosts and entertainers, thriving in social settings and enjoying the spotlight. They are generous in giving attention to others, creating a positive and comfortable atmosphere that leaves others feeling heard and valued. However, they are sensitive to criticism and can feel vulnerable when their flaws are exposed. Their strong desire for independence and achievement may also prevent them from seeking help when needed.

Black aura

A black aura, far from being negative, is a powerful sign of growth and transformation. It indicates that the individual is in the process of developing something new and wonderful in their life. Like a white aura, it represents generative forces, but instead of drawing from celestial energies, the black aura draws its power from the Earth itself. This connection is rooted in the Earth Star Chakra, located below the feet, which acts as a powerful grounding force. Think of it as a massively intensified red aura, embodying the nurturing and potent energy of "Mother Earth," like the dark soil that nourishes a seed into a flower.

Learn to see auras

1. Start with yourself

2. Strengthen your peripheral and 3D vision

2. Strengthen your peripheral and 3D vision

Developing your aura-viewing abilities begins with observing your own. Position yourself in front of a mirror against a light, solid background (white works best). Gently focus your attention on the edge of your physical form. As you practice, you'll likely perceive a faint, whitish or translucent outline—this is your etheric body, preparing your eyes to perceive auras. Maintain your focus, and this outline will begin to expand. Soon, a distinct color will emerge. At this point, your mind might try to analyze what you're seeing, causing the image to disappear. Don't be discouraged! Simply refocus your attention, and the outline will reappear. With consistent practice, you'll be able to clearly see your own vibrant aura.

2. Strengthen your peripheral and 3D vision

2. Strengthen your peripheral and 3D vision

2. Strengthen your peripheral and 3D vision

Our brains process visual information so rapidly that they often filter out subtle details. To train your vision to perceive auras, try these techniques: First, choose a spot and stare at it for at least a minute. Relax your focus, allowing your eyes to soften and slightly cross. Concentrate on the area of your third eye. While maintaining this central focus, become aware of objects in your peripheral vision without directly looking at them. Practice conscious breathing during this exercise. Second, if you can easily see 3D "Magic Eye" images, you're well-suited for aura viewing. If not, practice softening your vision until you can quickly achieve the same effect needed for those images. This skill translates directly to perceiving auras.

3. Try on other objects

4. Practice makes perfect

4. Practice makes perfect

In the physical world, everything is a conduit for energy, constantly absorbing, harboring, and emanating frequencies to and from the cosmos. With your vision now attuned, begin practicing your aura-viewing skills on others, including plants.

4. Practice makes perfect

4. Practice makes perfect

4. Practice makes perfect

Like any skill, perceiving auras requires consistent practice. By diligently nurturing this inherent ability, you can be confident that it will become stronger and more refined over time, ultimately becoming an effortless and natural part of your perception.
